Batam Harris Resort trip – 22 Jan 10

I meet YQ at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station before we took the Northeast line to Harbourfront. We reached Harbourfront at around 8am and we went to collect our ferry tickets first. Luckily we came earlier to collect our tickets as the queue starts to form up after that. The actual ferry departure time was 10.10am and not 9.20am which was indicated on the voucher. We had our breakfast at Harbourfront MacDonalds after collecting the tickets.

After our breakfast, we went to the cruise terminal to check in. It is so coincidence that we met YQ poly frenz - Zhaohong and his girlfriend, Gin. They also bought the same deal from deal.com.sg.

We had to scan our ferry tickets at a gate before we can enter the immigration area. As we reached the gate few minutes before the check in time, the gate does not open and we had wait until the check in time. After we cleared the immigration, we had to wait for the ferry gate to open and we passed our time by reading newspaper and playing iphone games. I love iphone. =) Once the ferry gate is open, everyone rushed out and walk towards the ferry.

After 45min, we reached Batam and was deciding whether to alight as we were informed in the email that the ferry would stop over at Sekupang terminal first before it continue to the Waterfront terminal. We asked an employee from the ferry and he told us that this is the Waterfront terminal. It seems that this ferry did not stop at Sekupang terminal.

We queued for almost an hour to clear the immigration as there are only 4 immigration counters open. After clearing the immigration, we saw Harris staff who direct us to the shuttle bus to hotel. As the shuttle bus just left the ferry terminal, we were directed to a SUV. Harris is only 5min away from the ferry terminal. Upon reaching the hotel, we were served welcome drinks and hand towel.

YQ queue to check in while I queue at another queue to book tomorrow return ferry timing. As double bedrooms are not ready for checking in, we decided to take the shuttle bus to Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall for lunch. The seats in the shuttle bus are quite cramped and the worst part we dont seems to feel any aircon at all throughout the journey. It's as though we are having suana for the whole of 45min.

I knew that there is A&W in Batam so decided to have it for lunch. To my dismay, the waffles are out of stock so we ended up eating the chicken meals. It's ridiculous!!!

After our lunch, it's already 1pm (Batam time) and we went to look at the shops in the shopping mall. It's weekend and yet the shopping mall is so empty. We left within half an hour and took a cab back to Harris. The taxi fare is fixed at IDR 120,000 ~ S$17. We have no choice since we don't want to wait for the 4pm return shuttle bus.

We reached Harris in 20min and proceed to check in. We were given a double bedroom in the new wing.

Every guest is given a Batam map, Harris map and an activity listing. Most of the free activities listed are for kids while those activities for adults are payable.

Once we reached our room, YQ called the spa to book our massage. The person replied that all slots are fully booked until tomorrow 4pm. She suggest that we either change to foot reflexology or have our massage at their affiliated spa which is situated outside the hotel. They would book a cab to drive us there but we have to return on our own. We decided not to take up the alternative.

We decided to head straight to the spa after we woke up from our nap. They manage to give us a slot for tomorrow 9am massage. We left the spa and went to explore the hotel.

After touring the facilities of Harris, we went to Harris cafe to check the time for tomorrow breakfast and coincidentally, we saw Zhaohong and Gin. They just had their massage and commented that the massage is not good. We sat at the cafe and chat while they ordered their free pizza for teabreak.

We went to the bowling alley as we have one free game of bowling for each adult. I reminded YQ to bring his own sock since sock is not provided. It cost S$1.50 and rental of shoe cost $2.50. As my foot havent recover yet, YQ had 2 bowling games himself.

After the bowling session, we booked a cab to Delima restaurant which is 5min ride away. It is located near Waterfront terminal and is the nearest restaurant from Harris.

It is good that the menu show the exact price as this would avoid argument when paying the bill. We ordered 8 dishes - chilli crab, black pepper crab, satay prawn, cuttlefish, belacan kangkong, beancurd hotplate, mie gorong and salted fish fried rice. This cost IDR484,000 ~ S$70 for 4 pax.

The cab driver waited for us and drove us back to the hotel. The hotel quoted us S$6 but the cab driver preferred Indonesian Rupiah and we paid him IDR40,000.
We went back to our room and watched English Premier League before resting for the day.
